Ideal Logic Max Review: Worth It?

The Logic Max sits below the two obvious premium options on price, and the interesting question is what you give up for that. Having fitted and repaired a fair number, the honest answer is: less than the price gap suggests, provided the system is looked after.

What It Is

A wall-hung condensing combi in outputs from roughly 24kW to 35kW, with system and heat-only versions in the same family. Physically compact and light, which makes it a straightforward replacement in constrained spaces.

What It Does Well

Warranty relative to price

The headline attraction. On accredited installations the warranty runs long for a boiler at this price point, and that is genuinely valuable — but the conditions apply, and they are the same everywhere: register it, service it annually, keep the paperwork.

Simple to live with

Clear display, uncomplicated controls, and an app option if wanted rather than imposed. For a rental or a household that does not want to learn a menu system, that is the right design.

Compact and light

Fits where some rivals do not, and a lighter unit is genuinely easier to fit into an awkward cupboard, which occasionally shows up as lower labour cost.

Parts and support

Ideal is a large UK manufacturer with good parts availability. Not quite as ubiquitous as Worcester, but there is no difficulty getting components.

What Goes Wrong

Heat exchanger sensitivity

Aluminium, like the Greenstar, and the same implication follows: it is less tolerant of sludge and poor water chemistry than stainless steel.

Diverter valve

The usual combi wear item. Heating works but hot water does not, or the reverse.

L2 and F1 lockouts

L2 is an ignition lockout — the boiler has tried to fire and failed to detect a flame. F1 is low water pressure. Both are common enough that they are worth knowing. Our fault code guide covers the range.

Build feel

Honestly, the casing and fittings feel lighter than the premium options. It does not affect function, but you notice it. That is where the price difference has gone.

Who It Suits

• Rental properties — good warranty, easy servicing, sensible cost.
• Budget-conscious replacements where a working, warranted boiler matters more than the last few per cent of build quality.
• Properties being sold in the next few years, where a long-life premium unit will not pay back.
• Tight installation spaces.

Who It Does Not Suit

• Systems that will not be filtered and dosed. This is the firmest caveat.
• A forever home where fifteen-plus years of service is the goal — the premium units earn their money over that horizon.
• Two bathrooms in simultaneous use, unless you size up properly.

The Value Question

Water hardness plays into this more than people expect, and Anglian Water publishes local figures. Is it worth paying more for a premium boiler? It depends almost entirely on how long you are staying and whether the system will be maintained.

A well-maintained Logic Max with a filter and annual servicing will give many years of reliable service. The same boiler on a neglected, unfiltered system will disappoint sooner than a premium unit would in the same conditions — because it has less margin.

Put another way: the price gap partly buys tolerance for neglect. If you are not going to neglect it, the gap narrows considerably.

Is it noisier than the premium options?

Do I really need a magnetic filter?
