Most of it has been a conservation area since 2001, with an Article 4 direction since 2003 that brings changes to front elevations, roofs and chimneys under planning control. Around the old town are newer layers: the 1970s Greenleys estate to the west, the Wolverton Park flats and townhouses on the former railway sports ground and Royal Train Shed, and the Love Wolverton homes now being built on the old Agora site. For heating and plumbing that mix matters. The terraces have solid brick walls, original chimney breasts and pipework that has been altered many times over 150 years. Greenleys has 1970s systems now well past their first replacement. Anglian Water supplies the whole area and classes the water as hard, so limescale is a constant across every age of property.

Do you know the Victorian terraces in Wolverton?
Yes. Most of the town south of Stratford Road is solid brick terracing from the 1850s onwards, and it is a conservation area with an Article 4 direction covering the front of the house, the roof and the chimneys. That affects where a flue can go, so we survey first and normally route flues to the rear or side. The houses have usually had several heating systems over the years, so we also check what pipework is left behind before we quote, and we agree a fixed price before any work starts.
Is a powerflush worth it before a new boiler in an old Wolverton house?
Often, yes. Older terraces with steel pipework and radiators that have been on the system for decades tend to hold a lot of black sludge, and Wolverton's hard water adds scale on top. Fitting a new boiler onto a dirty system is the quickest way to shorten its life. We check the system water and the radiators first. If it is dirty we recommend a powerflush, with a magnetic filter and inhibitor to keep it clean, before the new boiler goes in. If the system is clean we will tell you and skip it.
