Vaillant Boiler Installation in Milton Keynes: Range, Warranty
TL;DR
Vaillant's ecoTEC range runs from the Pure to the Plus to the Exclusive, all ErP A-rated, in combi or system form. The most important decision is who fits it: a Vaillant Advance installer can register the boiler for up to 10 years manufacturer warranty, while a standard installation gets a fraction of that. Installation price depends on model, type of swap, flue and pipework changes and system cleaning, so it is quoted after a survey.

Vaillant is one of the two boiler brands we fit most often in Milton Keynes. The other is Worcester Bosch. Both are well-built, both have good parts availability, and both give you a much longer warranty when the installer is accredited by the manufacturer. This guide covers the Vaillant ecoTEC range, the warranty difference that matters more than anything else, what goes into an installation quote, and how Vaillant compares with Worcester.
Why people choose Vaillant
- Build quality. German-engineered, solid components, and a long service life when looked after.
- Efficiency. The whole ecoTEC range is ErP A-rated.
- Warranty. Up to 10 years manufacturer warranty when installed and registered by a Vaillant Advance installer.
- Quiet. Among the quietest combis we fit, which matters when the boiler is in a kitchen cupboard or on a bedroom wall, as it is in a lot of MK grid-square houses.
- Controls. Vaillant's own sensoHOME and sensoCOMFORT controls, or a Hive, which we include free with every new boiler.
The ecoTEC range
ecoTEC Pure
The entry point. Combi and system versions, ErP A-rated, and suited to smaller homes and flats with modest hot water demand. It is a good boiler, but the warranty term is shorter than the Plus even with accredited installation, so check the current Vaillant literature before choosing it purely on price.
ecoTEC Plus
The one we install most. Combi and system versions across a wide range of outputs, compatible with Vaillant's smart controls, and eligible for the full extended warranty with accredited installation. For most three and four bedroom homes in Milton Keynes this is the right answer.
ecoTEC Exclusive
The top of the range. Its main advantage is a wider modulation range, meaning it can turn its output down further on mild days rather than cycling on and off, which suits larger homes and anyone pairing it with weather compensation. Also eligible for the extended warranty with accredited installation.
Accredited or standard installation: the warranty difference
This is the most important thing on this page. The warranty you get on a Vaillant boiler depends on who installs it.
Any Gas Safe registered engineer can legally fit a Vaillant. But only a Vaillant Advance installer can register the boiler for the extended warranty of up to 10 years on eligible models. A boiler fitted by a non-accredited engineer gets Vaillant's standard guarantee, which is a fraction of that. If a major component fails in year five on a standard installation, you pay for the part and the labour. On an accredited installation, Vaillant does.
The Advance scheme is not a form you fill in. Vaillant requires the installer to demonstrate competence and keep it up. Before you agree to anything, ask the installer to confirm they are a current Vaillant Advance installer and that the boiler will be registered with Vaillant in your name, and ask for the registration confirmation in writing once it is done.
We are Vaillant Advance installers. Every Vaillant we fit is registered with Vaillant directly and you get the confirmation from them, not just from us.
What the warranty depends on
The extended warranty comes with conditions, and they are the same conditions that make a boiler last anyway:
- Annual service by a Gas Safe registered engineer, every year, with the service record kept. Miss one and the warranty can be voided.
- System cleaned and inhibited at installation, to the standard set out in BS 7593. Old sludge pushed into a new heat exchanger is not covered.
- A system filter fitted on the return.
- Correct water treatment in hard-water areas. Milton Keynes has very hard water. Vaillant's terms exclude damage caused by untreated scale in a system that has not been maintained. On a combi, where mains water passes through the plate heat exchanger every time you run a tap, a scale reducer on the incoming main is worth having.
All of our installations include the system clean, inhibitor and magnetic filter as standard, because leaving them out to win on price is how warranties get refused three years later.
What an installation quote is made of
We do not publish installation prices because the same boiler costs a different amount to fit in different houses, and a number on a web page would be wrong for most of them. After a survey, the quote is built from:
- The boiler model and output. Pure, Plus or Exclusive, and the size your home and hot water demand actually need. Oversizing is a common and expensive mistake.
- The type of job. A like-for-like combi swap in the same position is the simplest. Moving the boiler, converting from a system with a hot water cylinder to a combi, or a first-time installation with no existing boiler all add pipework, time and materials.
- The flue. A straight run through an outside wall is quick. A vertical flue through a roof, a long run, or a plume kit to keep the discharge away from a neighbour's window is more.
- The gas supply. Older houses sometimes have gas pipe too small for a modern combi, and it has to be upsized to meet the manufacturer's requirements.
- System cleaning. A chemical cleanse on a healthy system, or a full power flush on a sludged one.
- Controls. The Hive is included. Vaillant's own weather compensation or a wired programmer is an option.
- What is included in ours as standard: magnetic filter, inhibitor, condensate work, building control notification, Vaillant warranty registration, disposal of the old boiler, and our 12-month workmanship guarantee on top of the manufacturer's cover.
Anything the survey cannot see, such as asbestos in an old flue or pipework under a concrete floor that turns out to need replacing, is discussed and priced before it is touched, not added to the bill afterwards.
Vaillant or Worcester Bosch?
Both are excellent and we fit both. The honest differences:
- Warranty length. Worcester Bosch offers up to 12 years with an accredited installer, Vaillant up to 10. Both are long enough to cover the period when most faults appear.
- Noise. Vaillant is a little quieter in our experience.
- Parts. Both are widely stocked. Worcester has a slight edge on same-day availability locally.
- Controls. Vaillant's own controls are good if you want weather compensation built in. Both work with Hive.
- Price. Close enough at equivalent tiers that it should not be the deciding factor.
For most homes the decision comes down to preference, the space available and what the survey finds. Our Worcester Bosch vs Vaillant comparison goes deeper.
The honest bit
A Vaillant fitted by a non-accredited installer is the same boiler with a much shorter warranty. Some firms quote a low price for exactly that and do not mention it. If a Vaillant quote seems well below the others, ask two questions: is the installer a current Vaillant Advance installer, and will the boiler be registered for the extended warranty. If the answer to either is vague, the saving is not real.
Frequently asked questions
How long does a Vaillant boiler last?
A well-maintained ecoTEC will normally give well over a decade of service. Annual servicing is the biggest single factor, and in Milton Keynes a filter and proper water treatment are the next two.
Can I get the extended warranty if I buy the boiler myself?
Only if it is fitted and registered by an accredited installer. Most installers prefer to supply the boiler because they are then responsible for it if it arrives faulty.
How long does the installation take?
A like-for-like combi swap is usually one day. A cylinder-to-combi conversion is typically two. A relocation depends on how far the boiler is moving.
Do you offer finance?
We do not offer credit or finance ourselves. Some manufacturers and third-party lenders do, and we are happy to talk through the options without recommending any of them.
